Southsiders Organizing for Unity and Liberation, ​2009 - 2011

  • Increased giving 92% by migrating donor processes to database. 

  • Researched and wrote articles for annual magazine and monthly newsletter.

  • Trained and empowered community leaders in Alinsky-style organizing, coaching them in campaigns resulting in:

    • winning $7.9 M loan from IL EPA to replace  sewer system;

    • hosting aldermanic debate and multiple public meetings;

    • getting SNAP benefits accepted at city-run farmers' markets; and

    • developing Community Action Council to address concerns of local public schools.

Senior Researcher and Editor

Grassroots Collaborative, 2010

  • Conducted interviews with women effected by looming IL budget cuts

  • Integrated qualitative & quantitative research into advocacy product.

  • Wrote and facilitated a bilingual training (Spanish/English) for community leaders.

  • Supervised ten high school students in installing energy efficiency kits in homes.
